Are you in week 7 of your pregnancy? Learn all about how the fetus develops this week, changes in your body, and pregnancy symptoms.

Week 7 marks five weeks since fertilization.

The embryo is now developing small arms and paddle-like hands. Cartilage, which will eventually form the skeleton, is beginning to develop. The brain and face are growing, and the early stages of the eyes and outer ears are becoming visible.

Size:

The embryo is about 0.8 cm or 0.315 inches in size, from head to rump.

Weight:

Approximately 1 gram or 0.035 ounces.

Embryo development:

Two eyes are now visible, though the mouth and nose remain a single opening. The tongue is starting to form, and small indentations that will develop into nostrils are beginning to appear.

Tiny buds that will later become the outer ears are visible on each side of the head. Cartilage, which will eventually form the baby’s skeleton, is also developing. Arms with paddle-like hands are taking shape as well.

The embryo has started producing blood in the yolk sac, and the heart is pumping blood through the newly developed blood vessels.

Your body:

At this point, it's common to start feeling the effects of pregnancy.

Common symptoms around this time include bloating, swollen and tender breasts, dizziness, fatigue, and mild nausea.
